I’m delighted to announce our new race team and sponsorship, Think Future with Shaw and Partners.

Young paddlers are one of the lowest represented groups in surfski racing in terms of numbers, for a various reasons. Think Future is setting about changing that, by supporting a bunch of young paddlers, who we hope will inspire many of their friends and peers to get into surfski paddling. Some of the big obstacles for young paddlers getting into surfski are the cost of skis and race entry fees. We are in competition with surf clubs and kayak clubs who often cover all of these expenses, so the idea came to me to get a team together where we support athletes and make surfski a viable alternative to younger athletes. The opportunities to race nationally, and then globally in this sport are huge, and I believe far more accessible then in other paddle sports.

Of course setting up a new team doesn’t come cheap, and Think Kayak Australia and Shaw and Partners have invested into this project with a view to giving back to the sport, and developing for the future. Having a chat with Earl Evans one morning, we were discussing various ideas we both had in the tubes, and upon hearing of Think Future, Earl immediately said he wanted to be part of it. I feel very privileged that someone who is doing so much for the sport of surfski is part of this new team. You definitely won’t miss our team paddlers on their Shaw and Partner branded skis.

The new Think Future race team is made up of the following paddlers:

  • Georgia Sinclair
  • Noah Havard
  • Nathan Neale

I’m really excited to see what these guys can do over the next season. Noah is the longest serving paddler with Think, winning a bronze medal at Worlds last year on an Uno Max, after having a great AORS and some terrific results last season. Georgia has been onboard since the start of the year, and has enjoyed great success in her first few races, loving the transition to the Uno. Newest recruit to the Think stable is Nathan, who’s started out hard with some great results in his first events on his Uno Max. I’m really looking forward to working with this great bunch of people over the coming season to not only get solid results, but spread the message of surfski paddling to a younger audience.

And now the fun begins. Make sure to say hello when you see one of these bright racing machines on a start line near you very soon.
