It’s often said, you’re nothing if you don’t look the part. But looking good shouldn’t come at the expense of function. In a sport like surfski, where we are seeing continual development of skis and paddles, you certainly don’t want to leave your clothing to chance. That’s why Think Kayak have teamed up with leading paddle wear company Vaikobi, to bring you a range of comfortable and functional clothing.

When Vaokobi started out, they went to some of the best paddlers in kayak and surfski and asked them what they needed, and what worked. Guys like Murray Stewart and Tim Jacobs were instrumental in the design process. From there they have created a great range of paddling specific clothing for all weather conditions.

Think Kayak has now teamed up with Vaokibi, with all of the Team Think paddlers wearing their range as they contest races across the globe. If you follow the team’s results this season, you’ll see that their incredible achievements have all been done wearing Vaikobi products. The exact kit that Team Think wear is now available to all Think paddlers, so you can not only paddle the same skis they do, you can match their attire also. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to attend one of Sean Rice’s clinics this year, through his PaddleLife project, will have seen him wearing the new Vaikobi kit. Our two new world champions, Teneale Hatton and Mackenzie Hynard are both big fans of their new race kit.

Anyone who has paddled with me during Winter knows I wouldn’t be known as a tough a teak off season paddler. Read that as soft, absolutely hates the cold, whinges at anything below 15 degrees! When I first tried the V Cold Pants, I was really impressed not only by the warmth, but by the cut and comfort of the garment. You know as soon as you pull them on that a lot of thought has gone into this design, and that they are aimed perfectly at us surfski paddlers. I now wear these pants all Winter, and my complaints of the cold are a thing of the past, which my paddling buddies are delighted with.

Australia is obviously a country of very differing seasons. Here in Sydney we can get temps as low as 4 degrees on the water during Winter. On the other end of the spectrum, hitting 40 degrees during Summer isn’t a rare occurrence. The V Heat shorts are a really comfortable solution to warm weather paddling. The rear bum pad ensures you never get any chaffing from rotating on your seat, and the well fitted legs don’t ride up your legs in big downwind paddles. Combined with the V Active long sleeve UV Top, which is available in either black or white, you are not only protected from the harsh rays of the sun, but the wicking profile of the material ensures you stay nice and cool. The cut of these tops is sensational, they allow for full reach and extension on your catch and rotation, which only helps your performance. For those wanting a slimmer line short, we also have the V Heat Sprint Short in navy. These sit a little lower, while still featuring the rear bum pad for comfort. And for the lady paddlers out there, we also have the women’s V Heat shorts, which are cut specifically for you.

We’ve got full stock of the new V Heat range, which is available online, so you will be ready for Summer. You certainly don’t want to let poor clothing choice determine your training and race performance this Summer, so choose Vaikobi to compliment your excellent Think Kayak ski choice.

See you on the water, styling it!
